HI, I’M KATIE
I kind of fell into video production when I was first starting out 13 years ago after getting sponsored for expedition kayaking and left to travel the world to compete.
By the time I was 19 I had already kayaked with some of the best, finding myself in the crisscrossing the globe between the Himalayas and Sierras of California.
At the time my friends were making films about our kayaking expeditions for fun—no story.
But I saw potential.
I convinced them to put our sponsorship money into making a film about major rivers that land developers in Africa, Nepal and India wanted to damn—which would displace entire villages due to the lack of water and leave them desolate.
It took a year and a half to shoot The Last Decent.
Our film—something we decided to create on a whim from a vision in our head and a desire to help people who had no voice—The film won awards including:
People’s Choice Award – Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival 2009
Activism through Adventure Award – Boulder Adventure Film Festival 2009.
My travels across the globe offering people a voice and transforming it into a story has been my passion for a decade and a half. Rivers in India and Africa, jungles of South America, small caves in the Himalayas have been the backdrops for the most amazing connections shared through the lens of being human.
My knack for film production has landed me in producer positions for major TV networks such as CBS, A&E, National Geographic, Discovery Channel and BBC Worldwide.
Knowing one’s own story, and unearthing the soulful stories of others is my gift. Around every corner is something that needs to be known and needs to be told. Now, instead of circling the globe I stay closer to my own backyard and help conscious companies and organizations share their meaningful stories—stories that change and influence your piece of the world.

A FEW OTHER THINGS ABOUT ME :
Basically, I’m a rugged Montana girl that learned how to make things pretty. I grew up on a ranch in Montana where we froze our butts off, woke up at 5am to feed cows before school, and spent our free time mowing lawns and running whitewater on black innertubes from the tire store.
We didn’t own a working TV growing up (ironic for a film producer, right?!). I still don’t watch much TV for pleasure besides dark dramas like The Watchman on HBO. And I don’t really “watch” shows. The producer in me is always studying the angles, set, camera work, listening to the script or wondering “How did they get shot?”
I once spent 9 months in Alaska filming in one of the rainiest parts of the world while working on Alaskan Bush People for Discovery Channel. I also worked on History’s Channel Great Wild North (you can watch it on Netflix)—where I embedded with Artic Trappers—and endured -65 degree temperatures in an uninsulated trapping hut with a dog-sled team! (Told you I like adventure!)
I also serve in the Army National Guard! I’m a huge believer in service and for me joining the military is really about learning about a very big part of our world—which is diplomacy, intelligence operations and being part of a global community.
